Etherscan, a leading blockchain explorer, has discontinued free API access for Base, Optimism, and BNB Chain during the Devconnect ARG event, according to Lefteris Karapetsas, founder of rotki. Etherscan stated that while free API services continue to operate, the chain ID coverage has been reduced to 90% due to insufficient funding from these ecosystems. The company emphasized that most foundations still support their operations.
Karapetsas noted that the removed chains, Base, Optimism, and BNB Chain, are fully capable of funding these essential services. He urged for collaborative efforts to share the financial burden rather than leaving it solely to Etherscan.
