Ether.fi is transitioning from its core restaking business to a crypto neobank model as yields compress and smart contract risks increase. CEO Mike Silagadze stated that restaking no longer offers meaningful yield opportunities relative to the associated risks, prompting the strategic shift away from the sector.
The broader liquid restaking market shows significant revenue deterioration compared to traditional staking. While the restaking sector holds $10.02 billion in total value locked, it generated only $99,977 in fees over the past week versus $27.35 million for the $51.87 billion liquid staking sector. Excluding ether.fi, five major restaking protocols reported combined Q2 2026 gross profits of just $953,000, a sharp decline from $2.18 million in previous quarters.
