The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) gateway eth.limo has revealed that its domain registrar, EasyDNS, was compromised in a social engineering attack on April 17. Attackers impersonated team members to initiate an account recovery process, altering DNS servers and switching between Cloudflare and Namecheap. However, due to the unbreached DNSSEC validation mechanism, malicious resolutions were rejected, and no user impact was reported. EasyDNS acknowledged this as its first successful social engineering attack in 28 years and plans to migrate eth.limo to a higher security service that does not support account recovery. This incident highlights ongoing security risks at the DNS level for crypto frontends.
