Ethereum's mainnet has officially deployed the ERC-8004 "Trustless Agent" protocol on January 29, as revealed by Coinbase's institutional research team. This protocol aims to establish core infrastructure for autonomous interactions among AI agents by minting them as unique ERC-721 NFTs. It introduces three foundational registries for identity verification, decentralized reputation (similar to FICO scores), and execution validation, enabling agents to prove model execution correctness without disclosing private information. In the three days following the protocol's release, over 22,900 registrations were recorded on the Ethereum mainnet. Coinbase highlights that the implementation of ERC-8004 signifies Ethereum's evolution from a transaction ledger to a neutral coordination engine for the machine economy (M2M).
