The Ethereum Foundation has finalized a fork-by-fork roadmap, dubbed the "Strawmap," to achieve its Lean Ethereum goal by 2029. The H* fork will be the last without Lean features, followed by I*, which introduces leanVM and Lean transactions. J* will add Lean proofs, data availability sampling, and PCS, with full Lean Ethereum completion targeted at stage L.
Lean Ethereum is a long-term protocol restructuring vision proposed after Ethereum entered its second decade. Its core objectives include streamlining the protocol and eliminating redundancy without sacrificing decentralization or security, substantially improving performance, addressing quantum computing threats, and rebuilding the underlying technology stack.
