The Ethereum Foundation has revealed that its security team utilized AI agents to identify a vulnerability in the software of Ethereum validator nodes. This flaw, found in the gossipsub protocol, could be remotely exploited to crash nodes, taking them offline until manually restarted. The vulnerability, now fixed and cataloged as CVE-2026-34219, highlights the importance of manual verification in security processes, as AI-generated reports often include false positives. Nikos Baxevanis from the Ethereum Foundation noted the challenge of discerning real threats from AI "hallucinations."
