Espresso Network commenced its transition to a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) system on February 27, aiming for full completion by March 4. This upgrade will establish a fully permissionless and decentralized base layer secured by staked ESP tokens. The transition is structured in three phases, each lasting approximately one day or 40,000 blocks.
The process began with over 90% of nodes upgraded on February 27. Epoch 1, starting on March 2 at block 10960201, will lock the staking table for Epoch 3. Epoch 2, on March 3, serves as the transition phase. By March 4, at block 11040000, staking rewards will begin to accumulate, and the HotShot protocol will fully operate under PoS. Post-transition, voting power will correlate with staked ESP, and the active set will dynamically adjust to the top 100 stakers. Network security will be maintained by two-thirds honest validators, with on-chain evidence required for any malicious activity.
