Bitcoin wallet Electrum released version 4.8.4 on November 6, delivering a security update that fixes a vulnerability in Lightning Network onion messages. Malformed onion messages from arbitrary sources could previously cause Electrum to disconnect from its channel peers. The updated client now discards all incoming onion messages until a practical use case is implemented.
The release also addresses issues with restoring mnemonics from pre-2.0 versions. This follows Electrum 4.8.3, which shipped in late October and patched a high-severity flaw that was actively exploited in the wild.
