Kunal Mehta, a 45-year-old from Irvine, California, has pleaded guilty to laundering $25 million in a RICO conspiracy linked to a $263 million cryptocurrency theft. Mehta is the eighth individual to admit guilt in this multi-state operation, which utilized social engineering tactics to defraud victims across the U.S. The scheme, which ran from before October 2023 until March 2025, targeted online gaming platforms and involved a network of hackers, callers, and burglars.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the plea, highlighting the ongoing efforts to dismantle the operation. The FBI reiterated its commitment to exposing such frauds and cautioned the public against sharing personal information with unknown callers or online entities.
