The European Central Bank's Pontes infrastructure officially went live on September 21, enabling wholesale tokenized asset transactions to settle in central bank money. The platform utilizes distributed ledger technology to integrate issuance, trading, settlement, and custody processes while supporting smart contract automation. Thirteen banks, including Deutsche Bank, Santander, Societe Generale, and the European Investment Bank, alongside four DLT operators such as Clearstream, have joined as initial participants. The Eurosystem aims to complete full deployment of the settlement infrastructure by 2028.
