DeepSeek will begin charging for server-side tool calls accessing its Search and Fetch interfaces starting at 00:00 Beijing time on November 1, 2026. The fees apply when users invoke the DeepSeek API through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code, or Codex; these calls were previously free.
Both Search and Fetch are priced at 5 yuan per 1,000 successful requests, charged by request count rather than tokens or number of results returned. Failed requests, searches without results, and timeouts are not billed. Each interface is rate-limited independently per account at up to five requests per second.
Search is powered by DeepSeek's proprietary search engine and returns structured web results, while Fetch retrieves a single webpage and returns its body text in Markdown format.
