Guo Daya, a prominent researcher from DeepSeek, has reportedly joined ByteDance, according to a statement by Liu Jiang, co-founder of Turing Education. Guo, who holds a Ph.D. from Sun Yat-sen University and was a recipient of the Microsoft Scholarship, was instrumental in developing DeepSeek's influential R1 model. This model, which showcased the potential of pure reinforcement learning in enhancing large model reasoning, was featured on the cover of Nature. Guo's move to ByteDance follows his departure from DeepSeek in March, amid speculation about his next career step. ByteDance's Seed team, which recently welcomed Yu Wenbo, former head of training for Qwen, is expected to benefit from Guo's expertise.
