DeepSeek plans to deploy at least 160,000 Huawei Ascend 950DT accelerator chips at a new data center in Inner Mongolia, in a move that would create one of China’s largest known Huawei AI chip clusters. The reported buildout is aimed primarily at model inference rather than training, while DeepSeek’s core training workloads have continued to rely on Nvidia chips. The report said the project targets gigawatt-scale computing capacity and that DeepSeek is seeking to raise several billion dollars to expand infrastructure. Delivery of the order could take more than a year, as Huawei’s 2026 Ascend 950DT output is expected to total only several hundred thousand units due to shortages of key components including high-end memory. DeepSeek has also asked regulators to help coordinate faster supply from Huawei.
