Demis Hassabis, founder of Google's AI lab DeepMind, has been revealed as an early angel investor in Anthropic, a major AI competitor, according to the Financial Times. This previously undisclosed investment highlights the intricate connections within the AI industry. Anthropic, co-founded by Dario Amodei, recently secured a $30 billion funding round, valuing the company at $900 billion. Google has also invested heavily in Anthropic, aligning with its strategic goals in AI and cloud services. Hassabis's investment in Anthropic is part of a broader trend of DeepMind alumni launching successful AI ventures. Since 2021, former DeepMind researchers have founded over a dozen AI companies, collectively raising more than $14 billion. Notable startups include Isomorphic Labs and Ineffable Intelligence, both securing over $3 billion recently.
