The cryptocurrency sector has launched the Defend Developers PAC, a political action committee aimed at advocating for legal protections for blockchain software developers. This initiative, backed by leaders from the DeFi Education Fund, Solana Policy Institute, and Uniswap Labs, seeks to promote the Clarity Act and the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act (BRCA). These acts aim to classify non-custodial developers as "transferors of funds," exempting them from certain licensing and anti-money laundering requirements. The Defend Developers PAC intends to support congressional members who push for developer exemptions and decentralized infrastructure. However, the Senate version of the bill has removed some protections related to sanctions under the Bank Secrecy Act, which has raised concerns among law enforcement about potential challenges in combating financial crime.
