The cryptocurrency industry is rallying behind Myla Rahman, a nonprofit executive challenging Congresswoman Maxine Waters, a Democrat from California known for her pro-regulation stance on cryptocurrencies. Approximately 69% of Rahman's campaign funding, totaling around $14,500 since February, comes from crypto sources, including a $6,600 donation from Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse. Executives from the Solana Policy Institute have also contributed. Waters, a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, has been a vocal advocate for stricter crypto regulations. Her potential chairmanship of the committee, should Democrats win the midterm elections, has prompted the crypto industry to strategically allocate resources to influence future regulatory frameworks. The industry is currently pushing for the Clarity Act, which faces opposition from traditional banks concerned about a shift of deposits to crypto markets. Despite her regulatory stance, Waters has also received contributions from crypto figures like Chris Larsen, highlighting the industry's diverse political influence.
