Covenant AI has announced its withdrawal from the Bittensor network, citing concerns over centralized governance. The team criticized Bittensor for concentrating decision-making power among a few individuals, despite claims of decentralization. They highlighted issues such as the suspension of revenue distribution and changes to community governance rights as contradictory to decentralized principles. Covenant AI, previously known as Templar, is recognized for its significant contributions to decentralized AI training, notably the Covenant-72B model. This model, trained by over 70 contributors, is one of the largest decentralized LLM pre-training efforts. The team plans to continue its work in decentralized AI in other environments.
