Coinbase has detailed CEEcil, an internal AI agent built to operate more like a team member than a chatbot. The system can be mentioned in Slack, retains long-term team context, proactively follows up on unresolved issues, and helps handle production incidents and expert knowledge requests that previously took hours to resolve. Coinbase said CEEcil can join relevant Slack discussions, react with emojis, and escalate or follow up when issues are left unaddressed. The company also said the agent once declined to submit an operational document containing customer identity information to Git, instead recommending a desensitized version or compliant storage method. CEEcil is built on a Go service and an AI agent runtime, with connections to memory retrieval, knowledge bases, real-time queries, and Slack through MCP. Coinbase said the system includes a real-time kill switch, call and spending caps, audit mechanisms, and human review for generated code, while a three-layer memory system and layered model routing are designed to preserve context and reduce cost and latency.
