Coinbase has announced that its x402 protocol will soon support direct payments using USDC balances for users of Coinbase for Agents. This development will allow AI Agents to manage accounts and execute real-world payments directly with stablecoin holdings. The update is part of Coinbase's broader effort to enhance its payment ecosystem, which includes the launch of a new Coinbase CLI and MCP to streamline login processes and integrate identity and operations through Claude. Additionally, a developer wallet is now accessible via the Swift SDK, enabling self-hosted wallet functionality in iOS apps. A system update is scheduled for June 16 to further improve payment and agent capabilities.
