Coinbase's Chief Legal Officer, Paul Grewal, is leaving the company following its extensive legal battles with U.S. regulators. Grewal will join a startup, as announced by Coinbase on Thursday. Molly Abraham will succeed him as general counsel, while Ryan Van Grack will assume the role of vice chairman, expected to be more public-facing.
Grewal, who led Coinbase's legal team for six years, described the regulatory victories as pivotal for the crypto industry's future in the U.S. He will continue advising Coinbase and contribute to its trust charter initiatives with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Abraham, who joined Coinbase in 2021, previously served as general counsel at an electric flying car startup.
