Key Qwen Team Members Resign Amid Alibaba Restructuring
Lin Jinyang, the technical lead of Alibaba's Qwen team, resigned on March 3, followed by team member Kaixin Li. Their departures come as Alibaba restructures Qwen from a vertically integrated system to horizontally divided teams. Tang Jie, CEO of Zhipu AI, expressed interest in recruiting the departing talent via social media.
Yu Bowen, head of Qwen's post-training, also left, with Zhou Hao from Tongyi Lab taking over his role. Hui Bin yuan, head of Qwen Code, had previously left for Meta in January. The restructuring has led to dissatisfaction among some senior executives, particularly with the release of Qwen-3.5, which was criticized as incomplete.
