Cognition has launched a local version of its AI programming agent, Devin, for terminal use, expanding its availability beyond the cloud. This new version allows Devin to operate directly in the terminal, providing full access to local codebases, development tools, and environments. Users can switch between advanced models like Claude Opus 4.7, GPT-5.5, and Cognition's SWE-1.6. If local computational limits are reached, tasks can be seamlessly transferred to the cloud via CLI, enabling continued operation even when the laptop is closed. The terminal UI is enhanced with a custom Rust-based rendering library, and Devin has been successfully tested on a 1978 VT-100 terminal, showcasing its versatility.
