Circle, the stablecoin issuer, has announced a grant to the United Nations to enhance digital financial infrastructure for humanitarian aid. The funding, revealed at the World Economic Forum in Davos, will support the UN's Digital Finance Solutions Hub (DHoTS) in improving cross-border fund transfers. This initiative builds on Circle's previous collaboration with the UNHCR, where USDC stablecoin was used to aid Ukrainian refugees.
The grant aims to streamline the $38 billion annual humanitarian funding, which currently relies on traditional financial systems. UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo highlighted the efficiency of stablecoin payments in maximizing budget impact. António Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, emphasized the project's goal to enhance the dignity and choices of displaced individuals through technology.
