Chinese AI startup Moonshot AI has introduced its new model, Kimi K3, which is drawing significant attention for its potential to compete with leading American AI systems at a lower cost. The model, boasting 2.8 trillion parameters, is one of the largest open-weight AI models released to date. In blind tests conducted by AI evaluator Arena, Kimi K3 outperformed top U.S. models, including Anthropic's Fable 5 and OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol, particularly in front-end coding tasks. This development is causing concern in Silicon Valley and Washington as China narrows the gap in advanced AI capabilities.
