The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is in discussions with all major U.S. professional sports leagues to enhance regulation of sports-related prediction markets, focusing on combating insider trading and market manipulation. CFTC Chairman Michael Selig highlighted the agency's efforts, noting a data-sharing agreement signed with Major League Baseball (MLB) in March. Selig also mentioned that the CFTC has filed lawsuits against approximately five or six states attempting to block federal regulation of event contracts, emphasizing that derivatives listed on CFTC-regulated exchanges should fall under federal oversight rather than state gambling laws.
