U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chair Michael S. Selig announced that single-stock perpetual futures contracts (Equity Perps) can now be listed and traded on CFTC-registered exchanges effective immediately. Eligible venues must be designated contract markets (DCMs) registered with the SEC as national securities exchanges via notice registration and authorized to trade security futures products.
Selig stated the move allows U.S. investors to access perpetual contracts within the CFTC regulatory framework, eliminating the need to turn to offshore platforms. The product is grounded in the 2000 Commodity Futures Modernization Act and a memorandum of understanding between the CFTC and the SEC.
