The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has appointed Amir Zaidi as its new Chief of Staff, according to an announcement by CFTC Chairman Mike Selig. Zaidi, who previously served in various roles at the CFTC from 2010 to 2019, was instrumental in overseeing the certification and deployment of Bitcoin futures contracts, marking the first federally regulated cryptocurrency product. Before rejoining the CFTC, Zaidi was the Global Head of Compliance for a major broker-dealer and introducing broker. His extensive experience in the financial services industry includes various financial, legal, and regulatory positions in New York and Washington, D.C. Zaidi's return to the CFTC is expected to bolster the agency's leadership in cryptocurrency regulation.
