Blockchain security firm CertiK has reported a significant rise in physical attacks on cryptocurrency holders, with 52 confirmed incidents in the first half of 2026. This marks a 33% increase compared to the previous year. The total losses and ransom demands from these attacks amounted to approximately $124 million, a sharp rise from $10.5 million in the same period last year. Home invasions saw the fastest growth, with 20 confirmed cases. France emerged as the country with the most reported cases, accounting for 33 incidents, or 63.5% of global cases, due to its large crypto ecosystem and several data breaches. The report highlights that criminal groups are targeting high-net-worth crypto holders by combining on-chain records, leaked customer databases, and social media information, indicating a shift in security concerns from cyber to physical and operational safety.
