Former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky has been permanently barred from the securities, commodities, and cryptocurrency industries following a settlement with the New York State Attorney General's Office. The agreement resolves allegations involving more than 26,000 New York investors affected by the platform's collapse.
The settlement includes up to $35 million in conditional payments tied to Mashinsky's compliance with federal obligations. He must forfeit $10 million in ill-gotten gains to the federal government or pay $25 million to New York State if he fails to do so. Additionally, Mashinsky faces a $10 million penalty if he does not serve a full 12-year prison sentence as agreed.
