Celo and Lisk have successfully transitioned from independent layer-1 blockchains to Ethereum layer-2 solutions, capitalizing on the growing trend of rollups. Celo, which launched in 2020, completed its migration to an OP Stack rollup in March 2025, enhancing its security and community engagement while maintaining its distinct features. This transition has led to a surge in activity, with daily active users surpassing 600,000 and stablecoin transfers exceeding 123 million. Similarly, Lisk migrated to an Ethereum rollup in May 2024, resulting in the addition of over 277,000 new accounts. These moves underscore Ethereum's increasing dominance in the blockchain space, as no major rollup has opted to become a sovereign layer-1 chain. The trend indicates a future where Ethereum's network effects continue to offer users lower fees and enhanced onchain experiences.
