Cardano (ADA) could soon achieve up to 1 million transactions per second (TPS), potentially surpassing Visa's peak of 24,000 TPS, according to crypto analyst Lucid. This ambitious target is attributed to upcoming upgrades such as Hydra and Leios, which are designed to enhance Cardano's scalability and transaction speed. Currently, Cardano processes between 250 to 1,000 TPS. Hydra, a layer 2 protocol, facilitates off-chain transactions through 'Hydra Heads,' while Leios aims to optimize the network by dividing it into specialized layers for payments, smart contracts, and settlement. Although reaching 1 million TPS would require substantial infrastructure improvements, Cardano's advancements in transaction settlement times and scalability are already noteworthy. Despite not yet matching Visa's real-world reliability, Cardano is progressing towards a decentralized, high-performance financial system.
