Canadian police have issued a warning about scammers impersonating the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to conduct a "crypto asset recovery scam." This scheme targets individuals who have previously fallen victim to fraud, attempting to scam them a second time. In one case, a resident lost approximately CAD 5,000 in a crypto "remote work" scam and was later contacted by someone claiming to be a lawyer. The caller alleged that CAD 60,000 in "crypto earnings" had been found under the victim's name and offered assistance in recovering it. Authorities emphasize that the RCMP does not contact individuals to inform them of discovered crypto accounts, does not collaborate with private entities for paid recovery services, and does not request any fees to investigate fraud cases.
