The Bank of Canada, Export Development Canada, Royal Bank of Canada, and TD Bank have successfully completed the Samara project, an experiment testing the application of distributed ledger technology (DLT) in bond issuance and settlement. The entire process, including issuance, bidding, trading, and settlement, was conducted on a platform based on Hyperledger Fabric. The results indicate that DLT has the potential to enhance efficiency and reduce settlement risk. However, challenges such as system complexity, governance structures, and regulatory adaptation remain, posing obstacles to large-scale implementation in the near term.
