A Canadian cryptocurrency entrepreneur was rescued by Spanish National Police after being kidnapped in Madrid on March 16. The 33-year-old was abducted in a rented van with altered plates while attending a dinner in the Salamanca district. Police intercepted the vehicle near Atocha Station, arresting two Serbian nationals, aged 32 and 45, while a third suspect remains at large. The kidnapping was a premeditated attempt to steal the victim's cryptocurrency private keys and mnemonic phrase, a tactic known as a "wrench attack." The suspects also tried to take a luxury watch valued at €100,000. Evidence, including plastic zip ties and pills, was found in the vehicle. The victim was unharmed, and the investigation continues. This incident highlights a growing trend of physical attacks on cryptocurrency holders in Europe, with France reporting 11 similar cases this year.
