Canaan has announced a partnership with Canadian energy infrastructure company Aurora AZ Energy to launch a pilot gas-to-power mining project in Alberta. The initiative involves deploying approximately $2 million worth of Avalon A15 Pro mining machines and containerized data centers at a natural gas wellhead, with a total power load of about 2.5 megawatts. By converting vented natural gas into low-cost electricity, the project aims to reduce carbon emissions by 12,000 to 14,000 tons annually and plans to participate in grid demand response to enhance revenue.
Canaan stated that the project seeks to validate the technical and commercial feasibility of an integrated wellhead gas-to-power-to-computing pathway. This initiative is intended to provide a green, low-carbon solution for future distributed AI and high-performance computing infrastructure.
