Evan Tangeman, a 22-year-old from California, has pleaded guilty to laundering over $3.5 million for a cryptocurrency crime syndicate, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. The group reportedly stole approximately 4,100 BTC, valued at around $263 million at the time, through social engineering and database breaches between 2023 and 2025. The stolen funds were used for luxury cars, watches, nightclub expenses, housing rentals, and private security. Tangeman's role involved converting the stolen crypto into cash and assisting with property rentals. He is the ninth individual to plead guilty in this case, with sentencing scheduled for April 2026.
