Caixin reported that UAE investment firm Aqua 1 Foundation spent $100 million to buy WLFI tokens issued by Trump family crypto project World Liberty Financial, surpassing Sun Yuchen’s total investment of $75 million to become the largest buyer.
The report said the fund’s actual controller, Zhou Guren, born in 1984 in Shanghai, has emerged as the key figure behind Aqua 1. Zhou is listed on China’s Enforcement Information Disclosure Network as a dishonest judgment debtor, with six cases and tens of millions of yuan in debt. A UK Crown Prosecution Service indictment also shows he is involved in a money laundering case in the UK, and a Shanghai wood company where he serves as legal representative was also involved in a smuggling case in China.
