ByteDance has resumed the global launch of its AI video generation model, Seedance 2.0, and image model, Seedream 5.0 Lite, via the Dreamina platform. Initially available in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brazil, and Mexico, Seedance 2.0 supports multimodal inputs and can generate 1080p videos up to 15 seconds long. In a blind test by Artificial Analysis, Seedance 2.0 ranked first in text-to-video generation, surpassing competitors like Google Veo3 and OpenAI Sora.
The relaunch follows a brief pause due to legal pressures from Hollywood studios, including Disney, which accused ByteDance of "virtual piracy" after celebrity videos went viral. To address compliance issues, ByteDance has implemented a ban on uploading real-person images. This measure is seen as a compromise to mitigate legal risks and ensure the continuation of Seedance 2.0's global rollout.
