ByteDance has increased its AI capital expenditure for the year to over RMB 200 billion, marking a significant rise from the previously planned RMB 160 billion. This adjustment comes as the company shifts its focus towards domestic AI chips, driven by rising memory chip costs and the expansion of its AI operations. The decision is also influenced by delays in importing NVIDIA's H200 chips due to regulatory hurdles in China. In addition to its domestic strategy, ByteDance is expanding its overseas infrastructure. The Thai government recently approved a substantial data infrastructure investment of up to $25 billion by ByteDance, surpassing its initial five-year plan of $8.8 billion. Furthermore, ByteDance announced a €1 billion investment in Finnish data centers last month, highlighting its aggressive global expansion strategy.
