Brazil’s state-owned energy company Petrobras is piloting the Cardano blockchain to track environmental claims for low-carbon fuels in two new research projects. The initiative aims to verify carbon footprint data and prevent double-counting of emissions reductions across sustainable fuel supply chains.
One project focuses on sustainable aviation fuel, recording the attribution and timing of environmental benefit claims. The second targets Diesel R, a renewable diesel, tracking production, transportation, and usage data to help companies calculate indirect carbon emissions. Both initiatives remain in the research phase with no rollout timeline disclosed.
