A Brazilian federal court has convicted 14 individuals for laundering $95 million in drug and kidnapping ransom proceeds using Bitcoin. The two main perpetrators received sentences exceeding 21 years, while the remaining 12 were sentenced to 10 to 17 years. Prosecutors revealed that the group operated from 2019 to 2024 in Minas Gerais and Paraná, using Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to transfer proceeds from cross-border drug trafficking and violent crimes, including ransom from a Rio de Janeiro kidnapping case.
