The Brazilian Ministry of Finance is drafting a proposal to tax stablecoin flows as remittances, igniting a debate among lawmakers. Deputy Aureo Ribeiro and other Congress members oppose the measure, fearing it could hinder stablecoin adoption and drive users to foreign platforms. Dario Durigan, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, emphasized the necessity of regulating and taxing crypto assets for economic stability. Ribeiro cautioned that such a tax might deter local investment and lead to an outflow of crypto capital from Brazil.
