Brazil's House of Representatives has approved a bill allowing the freezing of cryptocurrency balances held by individuals under investigation for cyber fraud. The legislation, passed by the Chamber of Deputies' Committee on Finance and Taxation, aims to strengthen penalties for cybercriminals, increasing prison sentences to 6-10 years from the previous 4-8 years. The bill also empowers judges to freeze assets in Bitcoin exchanges and bank accounts, and includes measures such as freezing physical assets and restricting payment system usage. The bill, which targets crimes committed via social media and telephone, will now proceed to the Constitutional and Judicial Council for further review. It is anticipated to be finalized shortly, marking a significant step in Brazil's efforts to combat cybercrime.
