Bank of America has reported that SK Hynix's new memory capacity by 2028 could be only one-sixth of its original plan. This shortfall is attributed to the closure of old plants due to technology upgrades, which will result in South Korea's wafer capacity growth rate being under 10% annually, significantly below the target of doubling by 2030. Additionally, the construction and equipment installation for new large wafer factories by Samsung and SK Hynix in Gwangju and Jeolla may take up to ten years.
