BNB Smart Chain activated the Pasteur hard fork on Tuesday, adding upgrades to cross-chain bridge verification, validator authorization, and block production. The upgrade combines three BEP proposals: BEP-682 rejects duplicate validator entries in cross-chain light node verification; BEP-695 tightens controls on validator key rotation, penalties, and governance voting; and BEP-675 lets specialized block builders submit fully executed blocks for validator signature checks before full execution verification.
In QANet testing, the new block-building path increased throughput from 1,237 transactions per second to 2,324, a gain of about 88%. Average gas usage per block rose from 46.35 million to 84.15 million, while block time and the 100 million gas limit remained unchanged. BSC previously reduced block times from 1.5 seconds to 450 milliseconds through the Maxwell and Fermi upgrades, and Pasteur further improves network capacity.
