Mike McGlone, a senior commodities strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence, has highlighted that cryptocurrencies are underperforming global equities on a risk-adjusted basis. This trend may indicate that the current rapid upcycle for risky assets is nearing its end. From the end of 2017 to December 30, the Bloomberg Galaxy Crypto Index (BGCI) increased by approximately 90%, mirroring the growth in global equities' market capitalization. However, the annual volatility of the BGCI was about seven times higher, suggesting that crypto assets have not provided excess returns commensurate with their higher risk.
