Block, the payment company, has quietly rehired some employees after laying off 4,000 staff members at the end of February. Several employees have shared on LinkedIn that they received invitations to return to work. A design engineer mentioned his layoff was due to a clerical error, while a technology lead convinced management of the need for more staff to maintain client-critical infrastructure, resulting in some colleagues being rehired. A creative strategy lead also received a return invitation shortly after being laid off. Block CEO Jack Dorsey acknowledged potential errors in the layoff decisions and emphasized the company's flexibility to address them. He noted that the restructuring was driven by the development of AI tools, which necessitated changes within the organization.
