Bithumb has issued an apology following a payment error incident, acknowledging a failure to maintain stability and integrity. The company is cooperating with the Financial Supervisory Service's investigation and has announced measures to prevent future errors. These include strengthening asset verification, improving multi-step payment processes, enhancing AI systems for transaction monitoring, and commissioning external audits.
Bithumb has committed to compensating affected customers, estimating losses at approximately 100 million KRW. Compensation includes full reimbursement plus 10% for panic selling during the incident, 20,000 KRW for all users who accessed the platform during the event, and zero transaction fees for seven days. Additionally, a 10 billion KRW customer protection fund will be established to safeguard assets in future incidents.
