Bitfury Group has made a strategic $12 million investment in Gonka.ai, a decentralized AI computing network, acquiring 20 million GNK tokens at $0.60 each. This marks Bitfury's first public investment since launching its $1 billion ethical AI fund, highlighting a shift towards decentralized AI infrastructure by traditional mining firms. Gonka.ai, founded by the Lieberman brothers, aims to disrupt the AI computing market with a blockchain-based distributed GPU network.
Gonka.ai's network boasts over 5,000 NVIDIA H100 series GPUs, supporting nearly 20 mainstream AI devices, including the 3080, 4090, H100, and H200. This setup is poised to challenge the dominance of NVIDIA and cloud service providers, potentially lowering AI development costs. Previously, Gonka secured $18 million in funding from notable investors such as Coatue Management and Slow Ventures, alongside contributions from industry leaders like 6 Block and Hyperfusion.
