Economist and cryptocurrency critic Peter Schiff highlighted that Bitcoin and Ethereum's year-to-date gains have underperformed compared to major precious metals. According to Schiff, platinum has surged 74%, silver 59%, palladium 44%, and gold 43%, while Ethereum and Bitcoin have risen only 20% and 16%, respectively. Schiff further noted that Bitcoin is in a long-term "hidden bear market," with its price in gold terms 22% below its August 2025 peak and 20% below its November 2021 high. This analysis suggests that despite some growth, Bitcoin's performance remains subdued relative to traditional safe-haven assets.
